Discovery

"Raise your sights, dare to embrace the vision of who you truly are: a cosmic being expressing yourself in an ocean of eternity, frozen in the world of form, temporarily perhaps, on the verge of freedom, on a mission to become the embodiment of the living solution."

-Excerpt from "Amazing Grace" by David Wolfe and Nick Good

To Those Who Think Drilling for Oil is the Solution:

Drilling for oil in the U.S. is one solution to our dependency and our rising gas prices (although I don't think it would really lower gas prices), but I do not think it is a very intelligent, or efficient solution in the long run. Has no one noticed all the weather changes worldwide? Have we not all realized the relationship we as humans have had with nature? How our actions, our pollutants, our disrespect, and money hungry politicians have steered us into a very gloom future if nothing is done? How then is drilling for more oil a solution? If we were to drill for more oil, how long would that last us? Would the oil last 20 years? 50 years? What would 20 more years of these emissions do to our environment? Look at how the weather has already changed, and it will only get worse if we continue on the path we are currently on. Why not use all the brain power we were given, use our technology, and actually create a life that is not just beneficial to the environment's health, but ours as well? There are plenty of companies that are focusing on energy and fuel alternatives, but not enough if we really want to bring about change. I say we focus our attention on creating a future that uses clean, renewable energy sources, and stop disrespecting the only planet we have with our toxic wastes.

McGovern's Liberalism

At first I was going to write my own article dedicated to Former U.S. Senator George McGovern, instead, readers can look through some of his quotes below. If you're interested in learning more about him, I have provided additional links at the end of my post.

An excerpt from George McGovern's
The Case For Liberalism:

"President Bush has said repeatedly that the terrorists hate us because of our freedom. I don't believe that. The world's people have always admired our freedom. What they don't like is the arrogance and indifference to world opinion inherent in so much of our international policy. Plenty of my fellow citizens don't like that either. I'm not alone in my dislike of the way our government is waging the so-called war against terrorism, in my opposition to a war with Iraq and to calling Iraq, Iran, and North Korea the "axis of evil." And I intend to press these points as long as I believe my convictions are grounded in common sense, patriotism, and veneration of life."

A couple his of quotes from
The U.S. vs John Lennon:

"I think the most un-American Americans are those who try to squelch a citizen that speaks out against a policy he/she disagrees with, those are the real traitors, the ones that betray the Bill of Rights and our freedoms in order to discourage any kind of public criticism."

"Disent is the only way in which a society can correct it's mistakes."

Additional McGovern quotes:
(provided by: BrainyQuote)

"I am fed up with a system which busts the pot smoker and lets the big dope racketeer go free. "

"When people ask if the United States can afford to place on trial the president, if the system can stand impeachment, my answer is, "Can we stand anything else?"

Ngi Ne Themba, I Find Hope

More artists are using their music and voice to bring awareness of many global issues to public attention and Hanson, with their new album, is doing just that.

"The Great Divide" is their new song inspired by their trip to Africa that not only sends an excellent message, but aides in an important cause. All the proceeds from purchases of this song and the Great Divide T-shirt go to HIVSA. HIVSA is an organization that is working on reducing the transfer of AIDS/HIV from the mother to the child.

Purchase the song/t-shirt.

Here's the video for The Great Divide:

"The earth is shaking under siege
Every breath will meet it's fate
Still hunger for a moment of freedom
Even though the hour's late"

"I find hope and it gives me rest
I find hope in your beating chest
I find hope in the eyes don't see
I find hope in your hate for me"

Insane People, Insane World

For those of you who have not seen The U.S. vs. John Lennon, I highly recommend it. In fact my first post along with a series of following ones are going to be in refernece to this documentary. John Lennon was not simply a Beatle, but he evolved into a revolutionary artist and humanitarian who shook up politics in the United States by spreading the message of love.

Although the quote below was in reference to the politics of the Vietnam era, I feel it still can be applied to the current era of the Bush Admnistration and all this "War on Terrorism":

"Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. If anybody can put on paper what our government and the American government, etc, what they are actually trying to do and what they think they're doing, I'd be very pleased to know what they actually think they're doing. I think they're all insane but I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that, that's what's insane about it." -John Lennon

What are the objectives of America now? Has President Bush's War on Terrorism objectives stayed consistent with the Administrations actions? As citizens of this country and this world we must keep our government in check and hold it, and it's members accountable for all actions great or small.
